Tony O'Gorman lectures in the Risk Management, People Management and Sustainability and Environmental Management modules of the BIFM Facilities Management Diploma. Tony has over thirty years experience in the construction, refit, management and maintenance of buildings, plant and facilities in Ireland, the United States, Asia and Africa.
Tony currently works as Maintenance Manager in one of Ireland’s largest public hospitals. He also has eleven years experience working for Intel Ireland as a Manufacturing and Maintenance Supervisor and as equipment Maintenance Manager where he was responsible for a team of eighty technicians. He has also worked as a technical officer for GOAL, a leading Irish Relief and Development Agency, specializing in water, sanitation and engineering logistics. Tony also has extensive training and experience as Facilities Emergency Response Leader, working with the emergency services on fire and chemical and major event emergency planning, response and control.
Tony has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Technology Management, a Degree in Environmental and Public Health Engineering, and a Masters degree in Business Administration and is pursuing a Masters Degree in Environmental and Public Health Engineering with a specific research interest in air and water quality. Tony is also a certified as a trainer with FETAC (Level 6 Train the Trainer).
He has lectured in the National University of Ireland, Galway (Schools of Engineering and Health Sciences). Tony is a certified member of the BIFM, and also holds membership of the U.K Institution of Engineering and Technology.
Tony has substantial experience in the design and delivery of training programmes in the following areas: Advanced Maintenance Practices, Environmental Health and Safety, Risk Management and Emergency Response, Quality Improvement, Innovation & Lean Plant Maintenance, Technical Problem-Solving, Project Management and Supervisory Management.
Henry Sheahan has a wealth of industry experience in the areas of Financial Services, Retail, Private Health Care, Public Sector, Telecommunications and Software and has worked as an associate lecturer and trainer with a number of colleges and professional bodies for the past eighteen years. Henry lectures in the following modules of the BIFM program: Introduction and overview of Facilities Management, Procurement, Health and Safety, Risk Management, Leadership and Strategy, Change Management. He has also delivered some in house training on behalf of Portobello Institute and also has a role as an internal verifier. Henry currently Heads up the Facilities for SAP Ireland and had a similar role in Hutchinson 3G Ireland, he also held senior roles in his twenty one years in Bank of Ireland, Superquinn, Blackrock Clinic, O2 Telecommunications and UCD. Henry holds a BBS in Procurement and Supply Chain, is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering, holds a certificate in Training and Development (HETAC Level 6). Has a Level 7 from NQAI in Health and Safety and holds a Post Graduate qualification in Education and Training from Griffith College.
John Bergin has over 25 years experience in Facilities management from both client side and outsourced FM provider. He has extensive experience in managing multi sites both in Ireland and across Europe. John has worked for major US and Irish companies fulfilling various facilities roles. The experience gained from working in organization such as AOL, Lucent Technologies, KPMG, and provides John with the knowledge and experience required to successfully deliver FM services. Electrically biased, John has qualifications include BA in Management from the Irish Management Institute and Diploma in Health & Safety at Work from UCD.
Gerry Kelly, B.Com.
For over 40 years Gerry has worked in both the Private and Public Sectors. During that time he has held the position of Chief Executive Officer along with Senior Director Roles in Public Relations, Human Resources, Facilities Management, Customer Service, Corporate and Social Responsibility and Emotional Intelligence. Gerry has direct hands-on and tutoring experience of almost 20 years in the areas of both Customer Service and Corporate and Social Responsibility. Working with Multi National Corporations both in Ireland and abroad he designed, developed, tutored and implemented, throughout Europe and the US, over 100 Corporate and Social Responsibility, Customer Service, Education, Emotional Intelligence and Cross Border Programmes targeted at influencing and improving the work opportunities and lives of people living in Belfast and Dublin.
Tony Baynes B.Com, FCA
An NUIG Graduate who went on to qualify as a Chartered Accountant having trained with PriceWaterHouse in Limerick. Tony has worked in a number of Irish and Multinational companies at Senior Management level and has extensive experience in manufacturing and various service industries. He is currently working within the Health Sector as Finance Manager of the Galway University Hospitals and will be lecturing in Finance and Accounting.
Damien Kelly is a qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA) and Chartered Tax Consultant (CTA) currently working in the Utilities industry as a Senior Commercial Financial Accountant. Damien ranked first place in Ireland in the final examinations of the Chartered Taxation exams. Damien qualified as a Chartered Accountant and Tax Consultant in 2007 when working in Practice with Ernst & Young, where he gained a considerable experience in all areas of Business. Also, for the past number of years, Damien has been tutoring for a number of Institutions throughout the country in the areas of Financial Management, Accountancy, Business and Taxation and has been recognised as a knowledgeable, interactive and interesting tutor.
Padraig Murray graduated with a degree in Business Studies (Accounting) from Cork Institute of Technology and passed the ICAI exams at the first attempt. Padraig has worked with a wide range of companies in several different sectors of business. Engaging in continuous reporting and liaising directly to the senior partners. Working within predetermined deadlines and budgets is critical to his roles with these organisations. In January 2009 Padraig began a research masters at Cork Institute of Technology in the area of Business Performance Measurement and its linkages to Business Strategy. The research will use a case study to explore how, or if, the performance measurement system of an Irish organisation has driven, or could drive, the development of new strategic objectives. Padraig currently works in Pepsi co.
Des Stapleton lectures on the Health and Safety at Work module and the FM function in an organization module on the BIFM level 3 programme. Des is a driven and focused FM and Health & Safety manager who has worked with large multinationals and SME both as a FM Manager and FM Contractor allowing for a varied experience and knowledge in all aspects of FM and client services. Des has a B.Eng from the University of Dundee, as well as H.Dip from UCD in Safety Health & Welfare at Work. Des is a member of BIFM and IOSH.
Des formed FWS Ltd. in 2005 which is a client focused FM and Health & Safety Management company. FWS has attracted many high profile clients over the years where high service level and a customer focused approach have allowed them retain and grow the business. Prior to this Des has worked with Johnson Controls serving on client accounts such as IBM, Ericsson and Pfizer.
Fionnuala Byrne is Regional Facilities Manager, employed with Google since August 2006. She has 13 years experience of managing properties both on a local and European level. She has extensive knowledge of Irish & International facilities market with a proven track record in analytical, reasoning, budgetary and presentation capabilities. Fionnuala holds a MSc Facilities Management from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh.
Michael Lyons delivers fire safety/fire legislation workshops in Portobello Institute and also lectures in health and safety on the BIFM level 5 FM programme. Michael is a Chartered Engineer and a member of Engineers Ireland. He has an honours degree inCivil Engineering (NUI), a Postgraduate Diploma in Construction Law and Contract Administration (DU), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Fire Safety Practice (DU).
He has been Chairman and Secretary of the Fire and Safety Division of the Institution of Engineers of Ireland and served on both the Council and the Executive of Engineers Ireland. He is a full member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) and an associate member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. Michael has worked as a Senior Fire Officer with Dublin City Council and with Wicklow County Council from 1991 to 2000 leaving as Assistant Chief Fire Officer (Prevention). His work included Fire Safety Certificate Application assessments, Fire Safety Notices under the Fire Services Acts 1981, Licensing of Premises for the Fire Authority and was a Fire Brigade Instructor in Breathing Apparatus wearing. Since 2000 he has worked as a self-employed Fire Safety Consultant and Consulting Engineer. He lectures on the Trinity College (DU) Diploma in Fire Safety Practice in relation to Fire Prevention (Fire Services Acts 1981 and 2003) and on Fire Safety Engineering & Design.
Barry Finegan entered management in 1990 while working in the world's first privatised municipal Fire and Emergency Service. Apart from operational duties During his tenure Barry also held responsibilities in the training department, Fire Prevention services, Business licensing and Plans approvals, Human resources section, and was a member of the quality team that steered the company to attaining ISO accreditation. Subsequently Barry worked for Africa's largest FM company as a Maintenance Manager with a number of key sites in his portfolio, and with full FM responsibility for a technical college. Barry enjoys lecturing and has presented business, vocational and creative programs. Barry holds a Higher Diploma in Business Management.
Martin Conneely lectures in the Risk Management of the ILM Facilities Management Diploma. Martin has over 16 years’ experience in High Volume Manufacturing in both the semi-conductor and medical device industry in Ireland and the United States. Martin currently works as front line manager in one of Ireland’s largest medical device companies. He has also 10 years work experience for Intel Ireland as a manufacturing supervisor. He was responsible for the management of 40 technicians in the Thin Films area. During his time in Intel he was part of a team responsible for a factory start up. This involved the coordination of a development assignment. His position was to manager a team of Irish technicians whose main role was to transfer a new technology back to Ireland. On return to Ireland he was part of the team that managed the new technology set up. Martin has extensive training as Emergency Response leader, working with the emergency services on fire and chemical and major emergency planning, response and control. Martin has a CERT in Industrial Engineering, Bachelor of Technology in Manufacturing Technology and Master of Science in Operations management. Martin has delivered and helped to design some of the following training programmes emergency response training, self-containing Breathing Apparatus recertification training, chemical spill recertification training, Defect and yield awareness training, Induction training to new hires and Mentorship of new Front Line manager.
Colman Murphy lectures in Property and Asset Management on both the ILM level 3 programme and the BIFM level 5 Programme. Colman Murphy has worked in Property Project and Facilities Management for nearly twenty years, he has recently joined Xtra-vision as a Senior Projects and Property Manager. Currently he is working on changing the Standard Store Design and Standard Store Approval Process and on the Maintenance process, changing to a sustainable Condition Based Monitoring and Preventative Maintenance model. He is actively involved in Upward Only Rent Review (UORR) respective legislation. Colman has worked in the following roles: Corporate Real Estate Manager EMEA and APAC for McAFee, Facilities Manager EMEA for Symantec, Senior Manager of Real Estate and Facilities UK and Ireland for eBay/Paypal, Corporate Facilities Manager head of department for Meteor Mobile Communications, Director of Facilities Sodexo UK and Ireland – and currently is employed with Blockbuster Ireland as a FM & Real Estate Consultant.
Colman received MBA from UCD in 2003, Advanced Mgt Dip from UCD in 2002, MA in Technology from Trinity in 2000, BSc Operations Mgt from Trinity in 98 and Dip in Mechanical Engineering from DIT in 92. He is also a member of IFMA and The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS).
Mairéad Roche, M.Sc., B.Com, DAET, Dip.Mgt.
Mairéad currently works as Programme Manager/Business Manager Coordinator in the Centre for the Modern Environment, Portobello Institute. Mairéad has almost 10 years experience in Facilities and Property management on both client side and outsourced FM provider. Mairéad has worked for Irish companies, International companies and government agencies fulfilling various facilities and property management roles. Mairéad has lectured in the National University of Ireland, Galway (School of Business and Economics) and for the University of Xavier, Ohio (Business School). Mairéad lectures in People Management, Customer Service and Procurement modules of the BIFM and ILM Facilities Management Diploma. Mairéad’s qualifications include a Masters in Corporate Strategy and People Management a Bachelor of Commerce and a Diploma in Training and Education all from the National University of Galway, Ireland.
Edwin Fleming has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management and a Professional Degree with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and has extensive experience in all aspects of FM. He is a member of the BIFM, and a member of the Irish Engineers of Ireland (IEI). In 2014 his experience was recognised when Edwin became the BIFM Ireland Region FM Professional of the Year. Edwin currently works as outsourcing Facilities Manager for Sodexo Ireland and based in a Pharmaceutical manufacturing site, in Cork, providing a full suite of FM services. Edwin has vast experience across construction project and Facilities Management, retail, Transportation and Technology sector. Edwin has further experience in the following areas: Environmental Health and Safety, Procurement, Financial Control and budgeting, Continuous Improvement and Innovation, Plant/Asset Maintenance and Small Projects.
